Description:This interactive panorama photo shows the area of the glacier snout of the Lang Glacier from the air.
Legend:
1) Location 1 is approximately at number 1, i.e. since 2006 the glacier has retreated from there to just before the glacier snout at number 2.
2) The glacier snout 2020 is very impressive with a lateral ice wall.
3) Here, the western arm of Anun glacier (Anungletscher) flows into Langgletscher. It will not be long before the Anun glacier will lose contact with the Lang glacier (Langgletscher) here. The Lang glacier will not receive any more ice from the Anun glacier at this point.
4) Part of the meltwater of the Anun glacier flows through this impressive stream.
5) Here you can see the beginning of a collapse structure. In 1-2 years a hole in the glacier will probably open at this location.
6) The well-known Lötschenlücke (3154m), which is also the highest point of the Lang glacier.
7) Erosion has eaten this trench into the lateral moraine.
8) Dischli glacier (Dischligletscher)
The numbers become visible when zooming into the panorama photo (cylindrical view).
