Roche moutonnée
Roche moutonnée occur when glacial ice presses with great force against a rock ledge in the direction of flow. If the rock ledge can withstand the pressure of the ice, the upper side (= direction of impact) of the rock is polished and glacial polish is created. On the lower side (= leeward side) the pressure decreases rapidly, which can lead to fractures in this part of the rock.
